The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act (HIPAA) requires that health organizations provide patients
with a Notice of Privacy Practices. This Notice informs patients
how their Protected Health Information (PHI) may be used and disclosed
by the organization to carry out treatment, payment, and health
care operations. It explains patients' rights and how to exercise
them. It provides contact information if the patient wants more
information or wishes to file a complaint.
