Munson Manor Marks 5th Anniversary, Seeks Funds for Upkeep
Retiring Foundation President Jay Zrimec remembers the day he and others toured a century-old structure with the idea of turning it into a hospitality house for Munson Medical Center.
“I thought, ‘How could you ever make this work?’” he recalled. “The process we went through to turn that building into a warm, inviting, comfortable, and safe place of healing was one of the most remarkable journeys I’ve ever been on.”
Since opening in November 2000, Munson Manor has been a “home away from home” for approximately 2,800 families each year.
“Munson Manor is providing a tremendous service to our patients and their families,” said Ed Ness, President and CEO of Munson Medical Center.
“While we are giving compassionate care to patients, it’s really good to know that families are also being cared for in a quality setting. Munson Manor is a facility we can all be very proud of — it’s added another level of care for those we serve.”
Gentle Upkeep Needed
After five years of continuous use, the Hospitality House is in need of upkeep. Some furnishings, carpets, and linens need replacement, and minor repairs are necessary. Maintaining the house’s 35,000-square-feet and keeping its kitchen stocked with coffee and basic supplies are ongoing challenges.
At the same time, the goal is to keep rates low. Single rooms are just $30 a night and about one-third of the guests require free or reduced charges.
All funds raised through the Foundation’s 2005 Year-End Appeal are being directed to Munson Manor for necessary upkeep and maintenance. Additional donations of time, money, and household supplies are welcome to ensure that the warmth and support provided by Munson Manor is available to those who need it.
Community groups are encouraged to host a dinner at the house. Anyone interested in becoming a Hospitality House volunteer should call (231) 935-7455.
