Areas of Need
Recently, the Mercy Hospital Cadillac Foundation established several new restricted funds, designed to give donors the opportunity to direct their gifts to areas of hospital need which most appeal to them. These new funds include the:
- Capital Projects Fund
- Community Benefit Fund
- Immediate Needs Fund
- Medical Equipment Fund
- Spiritual Care Fund
Capital Projects Fund
Keeping up with changes in the rapidly evolving field of 21st century medicine can be a challenging and expensive proposition. Advances in medical technology often lead to better patient outcomes, which is why careful assessment and planning is utilized to determine which investment will most benefit Mercy Hospital patients.
Projects such as the recent Surgical Services Addition & Renovation Project are an example of a capital project under this fund designation. Capital projects are additions, renovations and modifications to the hospital campus that are planned and prioritized through the capital budgeting process and exceed $5,000 in cost. Projects likely to be undertaken in the future include an expansion of the Emergency Department due to steadily increasing volumes and a renovation of the hospital lobby and registration area to increase patient privacy.
Community Benefit Fund
The core values at Mercy Hospital Cadillac are powerful. They guide our mission and vision for the hospital, as well as shape how we carry out our everyday activities. At Mercy our core values include respect, social justice, compassion, care of the poor and underserved, and excellence.
As a non-profit organization, Mercy Hospital invests millions of dollars annually in community benefit programs designed to give back to the communities it serves. Some of the community benefit programs supported by Mercy Hospital Cadillac include:
- charity medical care
- urgent care and chronic disease management
- prescription drug programs
- housing initiatives
- obstetrics and gynecology clinic
Immediate Needs Fund
The Immediate Needs Fund provides the Foundation with the most flexibility in using donor gifts to meet the wide variety of needs demonstrated by Mercy Hospital Cadillac.
Providing excellence in patient care is the top priority at Mercy, which is why our leadership works hard to carefully identify and plan new facilities, equipment and programs that pull it all together. However, there are times when urgent or unexpected needs arise outside even the best-laid plans. Examples might include a key piece of equipment that fails earlier than its scheduled replacement, or an opportunity to improve a smaller part of the hospital when tied in with a larger, capital improvement project. Donations made to Mercy’s Immediate Needs Fund allow the hospital the greatest flexibility in meeting such needs.
Medical Equipment Fund
Perhaps no area is as subject to rapid advancement and change than that of medical equipment. New equipment is constantly being developed that leads to improvements in patient diagnosis and treatment. The medical equipment needs of Mercy Hospital Cadillac can vary from year to year, but during the next two years alone, Mercy has identified over $2 million in medical equipment in need of updating and replacement. Examples include:
- infant incubators ($16,000 each, two needed)
- fetal monitors ($12,950 each, nine needed)
- diagnostic ultrasound equipment ($105,500 each, two needed)
- plasma sterilizer ($140,000, one needed)
Spiritual Care Fund
As a faith-based ministry, Mercy Hospital Cadillac offers spiritual care services unique to its Christian heritage. The Spiritual Care Fund collects donations to assist the full range of services offered through Mercy’s Spiritual Care office. Chaplains are trained to provide care that is respectful of all faith traditions and individual spiritualities. Hospital chaplains provide routine visits to patients and families, including newborn baby blessings and end-of-life patient care. On-Call ministers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide support in emergency situations. Spiritual care ministry opportunities now in development include surgery care, cancer care, grief ministry, and emergency department support, along with outpatient care and clinical pastoral continuing education.
If you would like to make a donation to support any of the above-noted funds, please download this pledge card and write on it anywhere the name of the fund to which you would like your gift designated. We’ll be sure your accompanying donation is used only in accordance with your designation.
