Mercy Hospital Cadillac's Pell Imaging Center Provides Digital Mammography
Women who undergo routine mammograms at Mercy Hospital Cadillac's Pell Imaging Center can have the latest diagnostic technology available to them, SeleniaT digital mammography from HologicŪ.
Digital mammography provides patients with the highest quality of care in the prevention and early detection of breast cancer.
Digital mammography allows the radiologist to view the x-ray image more closely zeroing in on suspicious or concerning areas, enabling them to make immediate decisions about additional images. Digital mammography takes less than half the time of traditional film-based exams and the radiologist may review the images while the patient is in the examination room.
Women will notice little difference when going for a digital mammogram. The procedure is the same as traditional film mammography, but less time consuming, since repeated repositioning of the breasts for additional imaging is frequently unnecessary. The radiologist can process and retrieve the images faster. And because digital mammography is "filmless," nothing has to be developed. Images are analyzed on a monitor and stored electronically. Of course, hard copies can always be produced if needed.
"Digital mammography definitely has advantages for the patient," says Deb Garvon, Manager, Pell Imaging Center. "The patient does not have to wait for films to be processed, decreasing exam time and has the potential for fewer exposures." For the radiologist, digital mammograms provide more comprehensive visibility. This translates into a win-win situation for the patient.
Each and every patient at Mercy Hospital Cadillac receives personalized care designed to meet her individual needs. "Our staff is highly trained and our equipment is state-of-the art. We are committed to providing exceptional care to the women in our community," says Garvon.
