Fitness Class Mixes Martial Arts, Dance, Healing
Health Education Institute offers four-week NIA class options

Mix a little martial arts, dance, and healing arts, and the result is NIA - or neuromuscular integrative action.

Founded in San Francisco 20 years ago, the aerobic exercise incorporates various movements and music into a fun and dynamic cardiovascular workout. NIA promotes healthy joints and balance, and increases strength, flexibility, and circulation.

The Health Education Institute, a partnership between Northwestern Michigan College and Munson Medical Center, offers a four-week NIA class on Tuesdays beginning Nov. 24. Sessions will be from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Munson Community Health Center's Classroom D. Cost is $45.

The classes are a moderately paced mind and body workout with enough intensity to burn calories and exercise the heart. Participants should wear comfortable clothing for movement.
