BS/MS degree from an accredited PA/NP program and holds a State of Michigan Physician's Assistants/Nurse Practitioner license. Two years of work experience as a clinical practitioner performing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks related to surgery.

The Neurosurgery Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner (PA/NP) is a mid-level physician-dependent practitioner and responsible primarily for the medical management of patients admitted to neurosurgery under the supervision of Dr. Thomas Schermerhorn. The PA/NP performs his/her functions based on his/her personal experience and professional judgment and: (1) discussion with the physician; (2) knowledge of physician preference; (3) written protocols developed with Neurosurgery, Dr. Schermerhorn, and Munson Medical Center (MMC); (4) written protocols of this institution. In addition, the PA/NP will perform, under the supervision of a surgeon, advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks related to the neurosurgical patients from admission, in the OR as necessary, and throughout the patient's stay at MMC. The PA/NP will be responsible for the History and Physical examination, admission notes, daily progress notes, admit and routine orders (at the direction of the surgeon), and daily rounds, completion of discharge summaries and attendance of at least 50% of the Trauma Service Committee.
